And now we take a break from the sweet, light, bright weddings and browse a darker palette. There are such lovers out there who know that love, life, death, and pain are all tangled up in a bittersweet array of hope and joy, and that somehow, that tangled mess can make the human experience better, the longing infinitely more powerful, and the commitment more fierce and expressive. I’m here for it. Dark weddings are deeply romantic too.

Oh, these details! Tiny bones were collected and repurposed into hairpieces, cufflinks, table decor, and the boutonniere to create this lovely Halloween-themed wedding event. Cheyenne, this wholly non-traditional dark wedding bride, (she’s gorgeous, right?!?!) is an artist just northwest of Detroit, Michigan. Her attention to detail shows in every bit of decor. And – fun story – the wedding date was the same as that of her grandparents, and the gown she wore for the ceremony was hand-crafted from the same grandmother’s wedding dress. The reception dress is a comfortable black velour with a silver spiderweb design.

Stroke of genius here… a coffee truck for guests to get warm refreshments as they arrive. Of course, planning for a late October wedding, one must consider that it might be cold. This day, however, was a very mild low 70’s temperature, though I’m sure the coffee was still quite welcome!

The ceremony musician was the pianist from the evening’s band – Bluewater Kings Band, and Cheyenne and John walked down the aisle to a live instrumental rendition of Type O Negative’s “Love You To Death” while the recessional was “Love Song” from The Cure. Perfect choices for the occasion!

And so they were married, on this perfect fall day, with crunchy red and gold leaves in the background and all their friends and family gathered to watch.

Portraits next! I’m always going to do my best to capture your family as well, which means parents and spouses, siblings together, and anyone I can grab for a quick portrait alone or together. You all look fabulous, so why not?!

The reception decor was no less stunning – every centerpiece was handcrafted and more than a year in the making! We have butterflies and spiders, tarot cards and skulls, ferns and fur, succulents and bones, moss and wax… really is ANYTHING forgotten?! This is a menagerie of artistry! Truly a reception to be proud of!

Can you believe we had a spectacular full moon complete with moody cloud cover? This night scene is perfection!
